Goodbye Logan (and Scuba diving)

After Cairo we moved on to Dahab, a small Egyptian diving town on the coast of the Red Sea. On our flight in we were already getting excited:

We splurged and ordered a taxi ahead of time. We even got one of those fancy signs with our names on it:

Our three day adventure began with a $25 eight hour tour that was recommended to us by our aforementioned taxi driver. We were immediately drawn to this price point. Lunch included as well. How could this be?

When Logan and Jake were pushing our 1970 Toyota pickup to get the engine started (I decided to film instead) we began to understand how our tour guide achieved such budget friendly prices.

The tour visited three different spots, starting off at Dahab's famous Blue Hole. The snorkeling was incredible with some of the best, if not the best, coral I (CJ) have ever seen.

^ I found that on Google.

^ These I actually took with a GoPro.

We were eventually led to a final rest stop at a gorgeous lagoon. Having used ChatGPT to plan much of this itinerary I realized I actually never once Googled a photo of Dahab so even as de facto trip planner I had no idea what to expect from this Red Sea town. That's Saudi Arabia in the distance.

The next day Logan and Jake tried Scuba diving for the first time ever. It turns out that as long as a trained divemaster literally holds your hand for the entire time underwater you can go Scuba diving without a license. In the meantime, I began my five dive / two day course to become Advanced Open Water certified.

On our final full day I went back to the Blue Hole (this time 30 meters underwater) while Jake ran, walked, and wandered all over town.

And just like that our time in Dahab and our time with Logan has come to an end. Logan was an amazing travel companion and his presence will be dearly missed. We are so glad he could join for as long as he did. In his honor here are some memories from the 21 days we spent together:

Goodbye Logan, hello Robert. In our next post we've made it to Lebanon and on four days notice Jake's older brother Robert decided to leave New York and join us for a week!

  1. “ We even got one of those fancy signs with our names on it.” That “sign” is a piece of paper.
